Popular local estate agents Pendle Hill Properties are inviting local schoolchildren to take part in a special competition trail to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Taking place this Saturday (8th June) on Longridge Field Day, Under 12s are being challenged to take part in a special mission, which will see them collect a competition card from the Pendle Hill Properties office at 74 Berry Lane, before embarking on their assignment.
Four interesting facts about WWII will be located around Longridge Town Centre and each participant must find the facts to locate a keyword, which will be highlighted in red. The keyword or phrase must then be written in the competition card, in the space provided.
Once all four facts have been found and competition cards have been filled in, participants must return their entry cards to the Pendle Hill Properties, where they will receive a Hershey bar and a toy parachutist.
The competition will run between 11 am and 2 pm and 100 Hershey bars and toy parachutists will be available on a first come, first served basis.
The giveaway of Hershey bars and parachutists is also a commemoration to the Candy Bomber, Col. Gail Seymour Halvorsen, an American pilot who gained fame for dropping 23 tons of candy to German children during the Berlin airlift of 1948 by tying a handkerchief to the candy bar and dropping it out of his plane.
Thomas Turner, Sales Director of Pendle Hill Properties, said: “We thoroughly enjoy being part of the Longridge community and encouraging people to come into the town and to #ShopLocal.
“Our D-Day commemoration trail is a fantastic activity for all the family to get involved in and we can’t wait to see all the happy faces receiving their Hershey bars and toy parachutists.
“With the Longridge Field Day event taking place on Saturday, there will be a great atmosphere across the town and we are excited to be taking part.”
